Faced with rapid growth over the past 20 years, the Albany area on Tāmaki Makaurau’s northwest has changed from a primarily rural settlement on the fringe of Auckland city to a growing urbanised environment with a number of residential developments.
The recent $10 million Medallion Drive Link extension has improved connectivity and safe access for the growing residential area and provided improved walking and cycling facilities.
The project involved constructing a new 2-lane road, including a new bridge, approximately 200 metres long, with footpaths and cycle facilities to link Fairview Avenue with Oteha Valley Road. Extending Medallion Drive has allowed vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians to move safely and efficiently around the area with improved access between the residential community, public transport, schools, retail precinct and the future designated growth area north of Oteha Valley Road.
Ibex was tasked with providing a lighting solution for the project with careful attention to local compliance regulations and environmental considerations for the surrounding areas.
Working closely with all stakeholders involved, the result has delivered a safe and compliant lighting solution while having a minimal impact on the surrounding environmental and residential areas.
